Do you need a bridging visa? Bridging visas are normally NOT something you apply for. They are granted automatically when you may another application for a substantive visa onshore inside Australia. It's there to keep you lawful (ie. not unlawful or illegal) in Australia during the processing of the visa application. The most common is the bridging visa A, or BVA. There are also Bridging Visa B and Bridging Visa and others.
